Nottingham Forest 0 v Everton 2 attn 25,610 The Trent End were in full voice,Nigel Wray was in attendance, and we had Nigel Quashie and Andy Gray making their debuts and we could go top of the Premiership if we won. The first half gave us great hope, Quashie looked comfortable on the ball and Geoff Thomas was running like a 20 year old and Steve Stone and Bonalair were linking together well. Jean-Claude Darcheville ploughing a lone furrow up front had the clearest opening early on - a snap shot from eight yards which flew over the Everton crossbar.Ferguson had the ball in the net but was Barmby had handled the ball. We went into half time for our meat pie and Bovril thinking that on the previous 45 mins we could snatch the win. Everton came out in the second half trying to break down Forest's off side trap without too much success. However with Darcheville playing on his own against a 5 man defence chances were to say the least limited. On 72 mins Ferguson beat his marker to put in low header past Dave Beasant and on 84 mins he scored his second, hitting a hard drive past Beasant. Although Freedman and Harwood were brought on to make a 3 man attack it was too late, and the dream of sitting on top of the league had gone. |
